How do I switch my pet's food to Applaws?

We are glad you asked. It's important to introduce a new food to your pet gradually over a 10-day period. A sudden change in diet can lead to stomach upsets or digestive problems, so it's best to start small and increase slowly. Applaws dry food is a high protein, grain-free food that your pets will love, but may take some getting used to depending on their previous diet. It is not unusual for your pet's toilet habits to change. During this transition period, stools may be looser, but over time they should become firmer again - a good sign of a healthy digestive system.

Can I feed Applaws to my kitten?

Yes, from 12 weeks of age - they'll love every bite. All Applaws cat food recipes can be served to kittens from 12 weeks of age. Our recipes contain high quality proteins, natural vitamins and minerals, so cats of all breeds and ages do well on Applaws food. If your kitten has special dietary requirements or you are unsure about feeding your kitten, speak to your vet so you don't have to worry.

How can I keep my pet healthy?

Here are five important ways you can make your pet happier and keep them healthy:

- Feeding a natural, healthy and balanced diet - like Applaws Complete.

- Fresh water to drink.

- Daily walks and exercise.

- Regular check-ups at the vet.

- Lots of love and attention - not too many treats.

How much should I feed my cat?

On the back of each Applaws pack and on the product pages of our website you will find our practical feeding recommendations - portion sizes vary and depend on your cat's age, activity level and general health. As a general guide, we recommend feeding your cat a bowl of complete dry cat food in the morning and evening along with a complementary wet meal, such as Applaws Cat Tins. One in the morning and one in the evening - don't forget to always provide a bowl of fresh water for your cat. If your cat has special dietary requirements or you are unsure about feeding your cat, speak to your vet so you don't have to worry.

Why natural pet food?

Natural ingredients help to keep pets happy and healthy - naturally. This is Applaws' core belief and at the centre of everything we do. We simply believe that everyone, people and pets, thrive better when they eat natural food without colourings and flavourings.

Why grain-free dry food?

When our founders started Applaws, they discovered that most commercial pet foods contain high levels of cereals and grains, which are cheap and filling but not necessarily good for our pets' health. Some can even cause allergies, itching and digestive problems. While most pets can tolerate a certain amount of grain, we know that it's more natural for them to get their protein from meat rather than grain. That's why we decided to develop a grain-free dry food range from Applaws. The main source of protein in Applaws food is high quality meat, such as chicken breast or tuna. We make sure that our recipes replicate your pet's natural diet as closely as possible, so you can give them pleasure in every bowl.

What is the vegetable gelling agent used in jelly cans and jelly pouches?

Pets love our Applaws jelly range. The jelly we use is 100% natural and is made from carrageenan - a seaweed extract. As the seasons change and temperatures fluctuate, the consistency of our food can also change as the ingredients we use are 100% natural. On a warm day, for example, our jelly may appear softer and more liquid than on a cold day. However, this does not affect the delicious, natural flavour.

There are two types of carrageenan used in pet food: Degraded carrageenan, which is cheap and may not be used in human food, and natural carrageenan - this is used in human food. Although they have the same name, they are very different. We believe that natural carrageenan is always best.

What is the difference between kitten and adult food?

Size is the main difference. Small kittens need smaller pieces. That's why we've cut our dry food into more manageable morsels that contain more micronutrients for growth and development. Our wet food also contains softer, smaller pieces of tuna and chicken compared to adult flakes for easier eating and digestion.

What should I feed my dog?

We believe that the best way to feed your dog is a natural diet that his body was made for. Like wild pack dogs, your furry friend is a carnivore. They need meat from proteins (not grains and cereals) and essential vitamins from vegetables and fruit to stay happy and healthy. That's why Applaws recipes are carefully formulated with natural ingredients. For our wet food, we use only the best cuts of meat and fish, as well as vitamins and minerals found in nature. Our dry food contains an extremely high proportion of meat and we also have grain-free recipes.

We recommend serving the dry food with a complementary wet food to ensure your dog's natural nutrition - don't forget to provide your dog with a bowl of fresh water throughout the day. If your dog has special dietary requirements or you are unsure about feeding your dog, speak to your vet so you don't have to worry.

Is fat in pet food bad for my pet?

Healthy pets need a little fat in their diet. Applaws natural food contains the right amount of fat, which is important for:

(i) a concentrated source of calories to provide your cat or dog with sustained energy.

(ii) your pet to absorb fat-soluble vitamins, especially A and D.

(iii) the supply of fatty acids, such as linoleic acid and linolenic acid, to maintain a healthy coat and skin.

What should I feed my puppy?

Lucky you - we love looking after puppies. At 12 weeks, your puppy can already eat solid food and should be fed to their heart's content. As puppies have sensitive stomachs, it is important to change their diet slowly. We recommend introducing the new food gradually over a period of 10-14 days and gradually increasing the amount.

We believe that the best way to feed your puppy is a natural diet that their body was made for. Like the wild pack dogs, your little furry friend is a carnivore. They need meat from proteins (not cereals and grains) and essential vitamins from vegetables and fruit. This supports the important development of their brain, bones and teeth as part of their overall health.

That's why Applaws recipes are carefully formulated with natural ingredients. We only use the best cuts of meat and fish as well as vitamins and minerals found in nature for our wet food. The essential amino acids that puppies need to get from their food every day, such as taurine, are naturally occurring in the top quality meat and fish we use in Applaws wet food. Our dry food contains an extremely high proportion of meat and we also have grain-free recipes.

We recommend giving your puppy a complete dry food with a complementary wet food. They can have up to eight smaller meals a day - some of which can be in the middle of the night. We recommend leaving a bowl of Applaws dry food out for 24 hours a day. You can then top it up with Applaws wet food - don't forget to always have a bowl of fresh water available. If your puppy has special dietary requirements or you are unsure about feeding your puppy, speak to your vet so you don't have to worry.
